🌿Ultimate Flock Boost – FAQs

Q: Can I use this every day?
Yes. Ultimate Flock Boost is designed for daily, long-term use using gentle, conservative herbs that support nutrition, digestion, mineral balance, and overall flock wellness.

This is not a stimulant or treatment blend. It works best when used consistently as part of a balanced feeding routine.

Q: Will this increase egg production?
Ultimate Flock Boost supports the systems behind healthy laying, including nutrition, digestion, mineral availability, appetite, and overall vitality.

While individual results vary, consistent use helps support the conditions that allow hens to lay well naturally, especially when forage is limited or seasonal.

Q: Is this a medication or treatment?
Ultimate Flock Boost is a supplemental herbal feed additive designed to support general wellness when used as directed. It is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent disease or health conditions. Results may vary based on flock health, age, environment, genetics, and overall management practices. As with any supplemental product, Ultimate Flock Boost should be used as part of a balanced feeding program along with proper nutrition, responsible flock care and management and veterinary care when needed.

Q: Is this safe for roosters?
Yes. Ultimate Flock Boost is safe for roosters.

We do not add oyster shell or calcium supplements directly into the blend. Calcium is best offered free-choice so laying hens can regulate their intake while avoiding unnecessary calcium consumption by birds that don’t require it, such as roosters.

Q: Is this safe for chicks or young birds?
This blend is formulated for established birds, not chicks.

While all ingredients are natural, chicks have very specific nutritional requirements that are already carefully balanced in quality starter feeds. Mineral-dense and aromatic herbs are more appropriate once birds are mature and their digestive systems are fully developed.

For that reason, we recommend waiting until birds are established before introducing Ultimate Flock Boost. This isn’t about safety, it’s about appropriate, responsible use.

Q: Can this be used with layer feed or all-flock feed?
Yes. Ultimate Flock Boost is just that, a boost, not a feed replacement. It can be used alongside quality layer feed, all-flock feed, pellets, crumbles, or mash.

Q: Does this replace grit, oyster shell, or calcium supplements?
No. This blend adds nutritional variety and herbal support but does not replace free-choice grit or calcium sources. Those should continue to be offered separately according to your flock’s needs.

Q: Will my chickens actually like this?
Yes. Most flocks readily accept it as part of their daily routine.

Q: Is this organic?
All ingredients are natural, non-GMO, and thoughtfully sourced, but this product is not certified organic at this time.

Q: Does this contain fillers or inactive ingredients?
No. Ultimate Flock Boost contains only purposeful ingredients. There are no fillers, by-products, artificial binders, dyes, or flow agents. Every herb is included intentionally to support daily flock wellness.

Q: What is the shelf life and how do I store it?
Storage: Store in a cool, dry place with the bag tightly sealed. Keep away from moisture and direct sunlight.

Shelf Life: Best used within 6–12 months of opening for optimal freshness and aroma.

Q: Can I feed this every day?

Yes. This blend is designed for daily, long-term use using gentle, conservative herbs. It is not a stimulant or treatment blend.

It’s part of the Cluckin’ Blends System, which focuses on consistent, supportive care rather than quick fixes.

Q: Will this increase egg production?

This blend supports the systems behind healthy laying, nutrition, digestion, mineral balance, and appetite. While results vary, consistent use supports overall flock vitality, which can contribute to better laying conditions.

Within the Cluckin’ Blends System, this blend works alongside nesting, maintenance, and seasonal blends to support hens holistically.

Q: Is this safe for roosters to eat?

Yes. This blend is safe for roosters.

We do not add oyster shell or calcium supplements directly into our blends. Oyster shell is best offered free-choice, allowing laying hens to self-regulate their calcium intake while avoiding unnecessary calcium consumption by birds that don’t require it, such as roosters.

This approach helps prevent excess calcium intake while still supporting proper nutrition for laying hens.

Q: Is this safe for chicks or young birds?

Some brands market herbal blends as safe for all ages because they use very mild formulations or limit ingredients. Cluckin’ Blends are formulated differently. We use intentionally layered blends with mineral-dense herbs designed to support established digestive systems.

While all of our ingredients are natural, not every natural herb is appropriate for every life stage. Chicks have very specific nutritional needs, and high-quality starter feeds are already carefully balanced for early growth.

For that reason, we recommend waiting until birds are established before introducing supplemental herbal blends. It’s not about safety, it’s about appropriateness and responsible use.

Q: Can this be used with layer feed?

Yes. This blend is a supplement, not a feed replacement, and can be used alongside quality layer or all-flock feeds.

Q: Does this replace grit, oyster shell, or calcium supplements?

No. This blend supports overall nutrition but does not replace free-choice grit or calcium sources.

Q: Will my chickens actually eat this?

Yes. The blend includes palatability-supporting herbs and ingredients that encourage consistent intake when mixed into regular feed.

Q: Is this organic?

All of our ingredients are natural, Non-GMO and thoughtfully sourced, but this product is not certified organic at this time.

Q: Does this contain fillers or inactive ingredients?

No. None of our blends contain fillers, by-products, artificial binders, dyes, or flow agents. Every ingredient in the Cluckin’ Blends System contributes intentionally to the blend’s purpose.

Q: How do I use this Nesting Blend?

Sprinkle a generous handful into clean nesting boxes. Refresh as needed or during regular coop cleanings. It can also be lightly sprinkled in nesting areas to maintain a calm, inviting environment.

Q: Is this safe to use all the time?

Yes. Cozy Nest is intended for regular use in nesting boxes and can be refreshed weekly or as needed.

Q: Will this help encourage hens to use the nesting boxes?

While every flock is different, many keepers find that clean, comfortable nesting spaces with gentle herbs encourage consistent box use and relaxed laying behavior.

Q: Will the scent be too strong?

No. This blend is designed to be soothing and balanced, not overpowering. If your flock is new to herbs, start with a lighter sprinkle and increase as they get used to it.

Q: Does this contain added calcium?

No. We do not add oyster shell or calcium supplements directly into our blends. Oyster shell is best offered free-choice, allowing laying hens to self-regulate their calcium intake.

Q: Can hens eat the nesting herbs?

Yes. The herbs in this blend are gentle and safe if hens peck at them while nesting.

Q: Is this safe for broody hens?

Yes. Cozy Nest is well-suited for broody hens and can help support comfort during extended nesting periods.

Q: Is this safe for roosters?

Q: Does this replace nesting materials like straw or shavings?

No. This blend is designed to be used with your regular nesting materials, not as a replacement.

Q: Does this contain pest-control herbs?

No. Cozy Nest is focused on comfort and calm. Pest focused herbs are reserved for other blends like our Pest Guard to avoid discouraging laying behavior.

Q: Can this be used in a dust bath?

Yes, this blend can be added in small amounts to a dust bath as an aromatic supplement.

However, it is not intended to replace a proper dust bath base like sand, soil, or ash. For best results, mix a light sprinkle into an existing dust bath rather than using it alone.

Because this blend contains strong aromatic herbs, moderation is key.

Q: Is this a treatment for mites or lice?

No. Pest Guard is intended for preventative environmental support, not treatment. Active infestations require appropriate intervention. Pest Guard is an herbal blend designed to help make coop environments less inviting to common pests. It uses strong, aromatic herbs traditionally associated with pest deterrence while remaining balanced and flock-friendly.

Q: Will this stress my flock?

No. This blend is intentionally balanced to avoid overpowering scents while still supporting pest deterrence.

Q: Can chickens ingest this?

The herbs are used conservatively and are safe for incidental pecking. This blend is not intended to be fed.

Q: Can this be used in nesting boxes for laying hens?

Yes. Pest Guard can be lightly sprinkled in nesting boxes, especially during warmer months and is safe to use around laying hens when applied as directed. For laying comfort, Cozy Nest is also recommended and can be used together. Just use half the normal amount of both if using together.

Q: How often should I reapply?

Reapply during regular coop cleanings or whenever pest pressure increases.

Q: How is this different from sprays or powders?

This blend supports pest management without chemicals or harsh treatments, using herbs traditionally used for environmental deterrence.

Yes, Coop Refresh can be added in small amounts to a dust bath as a freshness and maintenance boost.

It is not intended to replace a proper dust bath base such as sand, soil, or ash. For best results, lightly sprinkle into an existing dust bath rather than using it on its own. Because this blend is designed for routine maintenance, a little goes a long way.

Q: How do I use Coop Refresh?

Sprinkle lightly over clean bedding and coop floors during routine maintenance.

Q: Can this be used with the deep litter method?

Yes. Coop Refresh works well with deep litter systems and can be sprinkled between cleanings to support freshness.

Q: Does this help with pests?

This blend supports overall coop freshness and may help discourage pests through aroma, but Pest Guard is designed specifically for pest focused prevention.

Q: Is this safe for roosters?

Q: What are Peep Treats?

Peep Treats are a balanced healthy enrichment treat blend made with seeds, grains, legumes, bugs, and herbs. They’re designed to support foraging, activity, and natural pecking behavior, not to replace feed or be used daily.

Q: How often should I give Peep Treats?

Peep Treats are best offered 2-3 times per week as a treat or enrichment activity. They’re not intended for daily feeding.

Q: How do I feed Peep Treats?

Scatter them on the ground, in bedding, or in a run to encourage natural foraging and movement. They can also be offered in a treat dish in small amounts. Or feed them by hand and your birds will probably become your BFFs 🙂

Q: Are Peep Treats safe for laying hens?

Yes. Peep Treats are safe for laying hens when used as directed and offered in moderation as part of a balanced diet.

Q: Can Peep Treats replace feed or scratch grain?

No. Peep Treats are a supplement and enrichment treat only. Chickens should always have access to a complete feed as their primary nutrition source.

Q: Do Peep Treats help with boredom or confinement?

Yes. Peep Treats are especially helpful during bad weather, winter months, molting, or any time birds are confined and need extra stimulation.

Q: How are Peep Treats different from typical chicken treats?

Peep Treats are intentionally balanced, not bug-heavy, not seed-only, and not empty calories. They combine protein, fats, fiber, and herbs to support enrichment and nutrition without overdoing any single ingredient.

Q: Is this safe for roosters?

Q: Can this be fed every day during winter?

It’s recommended to feed it 2-3 times per week during winter. It can be used more frequently during extreme cold weather. It’s best served in the morning (for daytime warmth) or evening before roosting (for nighttime warmth). It’s especially helpful when temperatures drop, birds are confined due to weather, extra calories and warmth support are beneficial or seasonal stress increases. It is not intended for year-round use.

Q: Is this safe for roosters?

Q: What is this kit used for?

This kit is designed to grow fresh sprouts indoors that can be fed to chickens as a nutrient-rich supplement. Sprouts add variety, freshness, and plant-based nutrients alongside regular feed.

Q: Why sprouts for chickens?

Sprouts provide fresh, living plant nutrition that dry feed alone can’t offer.

Just like people eat sprouts for their freshness and nutrient density, chickens benefit from sprouts as a way to add vitamins, minerals, and plant-based nutrients to their diet.

Q: When are sprouts especially helpful?

Sprouts are especially useful during:

  • Winter months
  • Times when grass is covered by snow
  • Periods when free ranging isn’t possible

They help add fresh nutrients when natural forage is unavailable.

Q: Are the seeds safe for chickens?

Yes. All seeds in this blend are:

  • Non-GMO
  • Untreated
  • Sourced from U.S. growers

They are intended for sprouting and feeding as fresh sprouts.

Q: Do I feed the seeds or the sprouts?

You feed the sprouts, not the dry seeds. Seeds are grown first, then fed fresh once sprouted.

Q: How often should I feed sprouts?

Sprouts are meant to be fed as a supplement, not every bird’s primary food.

Many keepers offer them a few times per week or as seasonal support, especially in winter.

Q: Can this replace feed or free ranging?

No. Sprouts are a supplement only.

They are meant to add variety and nutrients, not replace a balanced feed, grit, calcium, or natural foraging.

Q: Is this fodder?

No. This is a sprouting kit, not a fodder system. Sprouts are grown indoors and fed fresh as a supplement. They are not intended to replace feed, pasture, or free ranging. You can toss them on the ground and cover and they will grow, but you would need a lot more of these seeds to use as actual fodder on a regular basis.

Q: Is this safe for all chickens?

This kit is designed for adult chickens. As with any new food, introduce gradually and observe your flock.

While all of our ingredients are natural, not every product is appropriate for every life stage. Chicks have very specific nutritional needs, and high-quality starter feeds are already carefully balanced for early growth. For that reason, we recommend waiting until birds are established before introducing supplemental herbal blends or sprouts. It’s not about safety, it’s about appropriateness and responsible use.

Q: How long does it take to grow sprouts?

Most sprouts are ready in approximately 5–7 days, depending on temperature, light, and watering.

Q: Do the seeds contain chemicals or treatments?

Seeds are non-GMO and untreated. Clover seed includes an OMRI-listed organic coating.

Q: What makes this sprouting blend different from others?

Because you deserve to know exactly what you’re using and why.

  • Many sprouting mixes are limited to wheatgrass or simple salad greens.
  • This is a custom mixed blend with 11 different seed varieties, selected to support ingredient diversity and a broader nutritional profile.
  • It’s intentionally designed to go beyond “something green.”
  • There are no cheap fillers, every ingredient serves a purpose.
  • My ingredients are not sourced from China and haven’t sat on a shelf for months or years.
  • I don’t add corn, soy or oyster shell to any of my products.
  • Nothing questionable or harmful, the herbs and seeds I use are all natural, carefully selected and intentionally blended.
  • No proprietary blends or mystery ingredients,  I’m fully transparent about what’s in my blends, the ratios used and the why.
  • My packaging may not be next level but my ingredients are and to me, that’s what matters.
  • I’m honest about what these blends are for. I don’t make exaggerated claims or promises. (For example, herbs used for pests and parasites are meant for prevention, not treatment.)
  • If you eat the eggs your chickens lay, ingredient quality matters. Not whatever looks pretty or fills a bag, regardless of what it is or where it comes from.

I don’t just hand you a pretty jar and say here “sprinkle this.”

If you follow along here on my page, I’ll teach you why these ingredients matter, what they’re traditionally used for, and how to use them thoughtfully with intention for your flock.

Plus you’ll be supporting my little farm, not a corporation or warehouse 🤎🐓

Q: Is this organic?

The seeds are non-GMO and untreated. While thoughtfully sourced, this product is not certified organic at this time.

Q: What is included in the Sampler Pack?

Each box includes three quarter pint jars, each filled with 1 oz of product. You choose which three blends you want from the available options. Each order comes with instructions for the three blends you choose.

Q: Are these real samples or just small amounts?

These are true working samples, not dust-sized portions. Each jar contains enough product to see, smell, and use properly so you can decide what works best for your flock.

Most sample packs offer tiny portions or random products. This box is different. It lets you build your own introduction to the Cluckin’ Blends System using clearly identified ingredients, no harsh additives, and blends designed to work together.

Q: Can I build my own box?

Yes. You can choose any three available blends to create your own Sampler Pack.

Q: What blends can I choose from?

  • Flock Boost
  • Cozy Nest
  • Pest Guard
  • Coop Refresh

No. The Starter Sample Box is designed to introduce the Cluckin’ Blends System and help you decide which blends you want to purchase in full size.

Q: Is this safe for roosters?

Yes. Our blends are safe for roosters.

Q: Are these blends organic?

All ingredients are natural, Non-GMO and thoughtfully sourced, but the blends are not certified organic at this time.

Q: Can I buy this more than once?

Yes, but most customers use the Sampler Pack to decide which blends they want to purchase in full size.

Q: How long will each sample last?

That depends on flock size and use, but most samples last at least several uses and are enough to see how your flock responds.

Q: Is this a good gift?

Yes! Samplers are a great gift for new chicken keepers or anyone wanting to explore natural flock care.

Q: Do the samples contain fillers or inactive ingredients?

No. None of our blends contain fillers, by-products, artificial binders, dyes, or flow agents. Every ingredient is included intentionally and serves a purpose.

Herb & Vegetable Seeds

We consider seed varieties that are over 50 years old and open-pollinated to be heirloom seeds.

Yes. We will never knowingly buy, sell or share seeds that have been genetically engineered or are a genetically modified organism.

No. We do sell a lot of organic varieties but we are not 100% organic or certified organic at this time. The varieties that we have that are organic will be listed as such on the individual product page.

No. Our seeds are not treated with neonicotinoids or other pesticides.

Each packet contains 50-100 seeds per variety. Some rare varieties or those that are larger seeds contain 15-50 seeds per packet. Individual seed packets will have the name, variety, seed count, date packed and date tested on each label.

This is a widely debated topic… There are methods that can help prolong the life of your seeds such as storing them in a cool, dry, dark place. We have found that by storing them in a glass container (air tight) or in a sealed mylar bag and placing them in the refrigerator, freezer or a temperature controlled atmosphere definitely helps. You can also put a desiccant pack in with them to help remove moisture and keep them dry. Avoid temps over 70 degrees or constant temperature fluctuations. To us, long term storage is 5-10+ years IF stored properly and this will also depend on the type of seed as certain varieties store well longer than others. If you’re not sure if your seeds are still viable, you can perform an easy seed germination test on them. We’ve discussed this and provide directions here.

Occasionally a particular variety may become out of stock. In the event this happens, we will substitute the variety with another that is equal to or similar. If a suitable substitute cannot be made, we will issue a refund for that item at our discretion.

Some cultivated or naturally occurring plants have been labeled by some local, state, provincial and federal governments as noxious or invasive weeds or plants. Bella Mia Farmstead will not purposely or knowingly sell seed that breaks any of these noxious weed laws. However, it’s important that you check the laws and rules in your state and area before ordering seeds from us or planting them.
